Chapter 1957
Chapter 1957 Keep Her There
Hearing that, Stella felt a wave of cold wash over her. She was about to speak again when a nurse's voice barked from behind, "Who gave you permission to use the phone?"
She hung up immediately and started randomly pressing buttons to make it look like she was just messing around.
"Scram," she muttered under her breath. "I'm going to call Nathaniel. If he knew I was here, he'd come for me. And when he does, you'll pay for everything you've done!"
The nurse came storming over, visibly angry. "You lunatic. How dare you use the phone? Want me to cut your hand off?"
Stella instinctively shrank back. "No, no, I won't do it again."
"You going back or what?" the nurse asked with a bit of a sneer.
As much as Stella didn't want to, she had no choice. If she refused, they'd just sedate her. That was worse. She walked slowly back to her room, silently hoping her roommate was asleep and wouldn't wake up.
When she pushed open the door and saw the other woman lying in bed, she finally let out a quiet sigh. But not long after, her sobs could be heard echoing through the room.
"You see what happens when you try to run?" her roommate scolded. "I'll break your legs!"
"I won't do it again... I really won't..." Stella sobbed.
Crying and shouting were normal in this place. Nobody bothered to intervene.
Later, when the nurse checked the phone, she saw that Stella had indeed made a call. Not only had someone answered, but the call was recorded.
As per the hospital director's orders, the nurse reported the incident.
Once the director found out, he immediately picked up the phone and called Cecilia.
In the past few days, Stella had been putting on quite the act, but this was the one time she slipped.
"Thanks a lot," Cecilia said sincerely.
"No need for that," the director replied. "Mr. Sinclair already told me. Anything you need, just let me know."
He added, "She doesn't seem to be mentally ill. Should we—"
"No," Cecilia interrupted, calm and sharp. "If she wants to act crazy, let her. Don't move her. Keep her in that room.”
She was curious to see just how long Stella could keep up the charade.
Did she really think pretending to be crazy would wipe the slate clean? Like that would ever work.
After ending the call, Cecilia told Nathaniel everything. He wasn't the least bit surprised.
Nathaniel's response was blunt. "She's got guts, pretending like that."
"Exactly. She loves putting on a show. That's why I'm not stopping her. I want her to keep it up."
Velet
The longer she fakes it, the more miserable she'll be. What's the point of living if she has to pretend to be y all the time?
She didn't plan to waste any more energy on Stella.
That evening, after work, Cecilia stopped by to check on Queenie. Somehow, Queenie had caught wind of the rumor that Randall had been scheming behind the scenes to take power from Cecilia.
When Cecilia walked into the room, Randall was already standing there stiffly, head bowed like a student being scolded.
"Cecilia, you're here," Queenie said. Her face had been cold all day, but seeing Cecilia softened it a bit.
Cecilia gave a nod. "Yeah. Mom, what's going on?"noveldrama
"Nothing serious,” she replied, then
turned to Randall. "Randall, the branch company doesn't need your
help anymore. Go back. And
remember, not a word of this to my parents."
The arrogance Randall had shown earlier was nowhere to be seen. He nodded repeatedly. "Got it, Queenie."
What do you think?
