Chapter 192 Real Identity
Harvey's disappearance had left the investigation at an impasse. I was at my wit's end when Alex suddenly sought me out.
"I know exactly what you're up to, Jane," Alex stated coldly after summoning me into his office. His eyes bore into me as if they carried a hidden malice. "You know why I promoted you to team leader, right?"
I maintained a stoic demeanor, prompting him to elaborate.
"I possess the power to appoint anyone I choose to this position. It would've taken
you years to rise to this role based on your qualifications. If we work together and you obediently do as I say, you'll be rewarded greatly. I advise against any counterproductive resistance."
I looked at Alex's repulsive face and scoffed, asking, "Is that the argument you used to convince Harvey? I take it that the previous team leader got demoted because he didn't want to go along with your way of doing things, right?"
"You're quite a sharp one," Alex remarked as he closed the distance between us. His lips curled into a grin, and the coldness in his eyes betrayed his true feelings. "Is this your way of saying that you agree to my proposal?"
I shook my head and replied, "I'd never agree to it. I mean, you're essentially bribing me with my family's money, and I don't see how that's going to work."
Alex immediately furrowed his brow, looking bewildered. It wasn't long before his eyes widened in surprise as he asked tentatively, "You're the heiress of the Brown family?"
I nodded and said somewhat sarcastically, "We've met more than once, so it's honestly surprising you didn't recognize me sooner. I actually thought that you had recognized me when you promoted me to this position."
Having said that, I raised my hands and clapped once. In an instant, the police officers outside surged into the office.
Jack assisted Dad as they came into the office, his face clouded with conflicting emotions. I had already looked into it-Alex had risen through the ranks thanks to Jack. And seeing how things turned out now, Jack probably felt humiliated.
Upon seeing the sudden crowd in the office, Alex turned to stare at me in disbelief.
I merely shrugged and said with a smile, "It's a little surprise for you."
Harvey's whereabouts didn't matter at all as he was nothing more than a disposable pawn to Alex. I investigated Harvey's whereabouts only tomislead Alex. It was a classic mişdirection, just as Eric had taught me.
Jack glared at Alex, a mix of anger and disbelief on his face as he snapped, "What did I ever do to you? How could you do this to me?"
Having realized that there was no way out, Alex chuckled bitterly and said, "Who doesn't want more money, Mr. Jack? What you offered me was a pittance. It was nothing compared to what I could get myself."
I smiled as I watched the police escort Alex away, saying, "It doesn't matter how much you have as it'll all have to go back to where it belongs."
Having said that, I turned to Jack and said, "Your judgment is really poor. You're not only bad at picking good projects, but you're also bad at reading people. No wonder Elsa has you completely fooled."noveldrama
Jack's expression immediately turned grim as he hissed the words, "You're pushing it, Jane!"
I shrugged before turning to leave indifferently.
Alex's arrest had repercussions for his entire team. In the span of a day, all three
team leaders in Brown Group's Business Department were removed.
My true identity was revealed, and I became the director of the Business Department under Dad's orders. Jack, who had always thrown a wrench in everything, could no longer meddle in the department's operations, causing him to glare at me with murderous intent.
I immediately reorganized the Business Department, promoting two managers to oversee four teams and appointing a team leader for every team. It was a bit of a
bex organizational structure,
but it introduced a system of checks and balances to reduce potential
risks.
I spent the entire afternoon working on it, and at last, everything was settled.
I headed downstairs and spotted Eric waiting for me nearby. I waved at him and started running toward him, oblivious to the figure coming at me.
What do you think?
