Realizing the conversation could only further tarnish his reputation, Errol quickly took his seat upon spotting his name card.

Lexus had placed Errol behind the main table. Initially, he had considered seating Errol at their table but worried about the discomfort it might cause his old friends and Harlee. After some deliberation, he decided on the next table.

Once Errol was seated, the rest of the guests took their places, all waiting for the banquet to officially start at seven o’clock.

Twenty minutes later, a hotel waiter approached Lexus, bent down, and whispered something into his ear.

Lexus immediately stood up, handed Ableson off to Matthew, and followed the waiter out with a look of urgency.

Everyone was puzzled by Lexus’ sudden enthusiasm to greet a guest, especially since he had not actively welcomed others since the banquet began. Who could this important guest be?

As Lexus stepped out, Moshe returned and quietly relayed information to Errol, ensuring only they could hear.

“Mr. Happer, could our information be incorrect? Perhaps Harlee and Lexus aren’t acquainted after all, and the invitation was actually extended to Lonnie. Given she’s a recently reintegrated member of the Sanderson family, it’s plausible she wouldn’t know Lexus.”

Errol had previously instructed his team to investigate who Lexus had invited to gauge if Harlee was among the guests. Surprised to learn that she had received an invitation, he tasked Moshe with exploring any potential connection between Lexus and Harlee. So far, no evidence of their acquaintance had surfaced.

Reassured by Moshe’s report, Errol’s spirits lifted significantly. He felt confident that Harlee could not possibly be connected to Lexus.

Lexus reentered the hotel at 7:10 p.m., smiling brightly. He made his way to the stage, picked up the microphone, and surveyed the guests.

The guests were surprised. People of their status rarely engaged in hands-on tasks, let alone took on the role of a host.

Lexus noticed their expressions, smiled, and said, “Welcome to tonight’s banquet. I want to introduce someone very special, as important to me as Ableson.”

This announcement piqued the guests’ curiosity, and they began whispering excitedly. They speculated it could be his second son, Gilmore. Errol thought so too and was already planning how to get on Gilmore’s good side.

Guests continued to murmur among themselves.

“What does Professor Moreno mean? As important as Ableson? Could it be Gilmore? But I thought he disliked Gilmore because of Ableson?”

“What kind of grudge could a father have against his son, especially one so outstanding? I had been wondering why Professor Moreno was throwing such a big banquet, inviting everyone from Uwhor. Turns out he’s announcing that he and his son are on good terms again.”

Lexus heard their speculations but his expression remained unchanged. He smiled and looked up to the second floor.
