Chapter 424
Josiah grabbed the viper's body by its heart with one hand and threw Conner off his back at the same time.
The viper sank its fangs into his arm.
"Hiss!" Josiah frowned and gritted his teeth. His face was ashen.
However, he didn't have time to think. Holding his breath, he raised his hand and swiftly slammed the viper to the ground. At the same time, he grabbed a rock and smashed it hard into the viper's heart position precisely.
The viper's tail twitched on the ground for a moment before falling still. It was dead.
"Ah..." Josiah released his grip. His knees buckled as he opened his mouth and gasped for air.
He then lifted his arm and pulled up his sleeve. His face instantly turned a few shades paler.
The wound was small and inconspicuous, and there were actually two wounds near his wrist.
He had been bitten twice.
'What about Conner?' Josiah wondered.
He wasn't sure when the viper had wrapped itself around Conner, nor was he sure if the latter had been bitten.
"Damn it!" Josiah's breathing gradually quickened. He walked up to Conner and carried him on his back again.
Josiah had to hurry.
He had been poisoned by the venom, so he could not hold on any longer but had
to meet up with the Evans family as soon as possible.
However, this time, Josiah clearly felt his strength failing him.
The moment Conner's weight fell on his back, he felt as if he was crushed by a mountain.
"Sienna, Joyce," Josiah muttered the two names, for only in this way could he hold on.
His thin lips were tightly pursed, and his teeth clenched.
Gradually, his breathing became rapid, and he couldn't help but gasp for air. Slowly, his vision blurred.
His limbs went weak and he could no longer exert any strength.
Cold sweat glistened on his forehead and rolled down his cheeks.
There seemed to be black shadows before his eyes when he almost blacked out.
He could not hold on any longer.
His heart seemed to stop beating.
Josiah's knees buckled and his eyelids drooped. Before losing consciousness, he reached out his arms and slumped forward.
That way, he could at least cushion Conner's fall with the latter lying on his back.
On the path ahead, approaching footsteps rang out.
"Mr. Brown, someone's over there!" one of the bodyguards exclaimed.
"Is it Mr. Evans?" asked Ethan.
"I'm not sure," said the bodyguard.
"Go and check it out!" Ethan ordered "Mr. Brown, it's Mr. Fischer. Oh. And Mr.
Evans... Mr. Evans is here too," said the bodyguard.
"What?" Ethan was shocked.
Ethan rushed over and helped up Josiah, who was unconscious.
"Mr. Evans, Mr. Evans, what happened to you?"
"Why are you still standing there? Carry him on your back," Ethan instructed.
"I'm on it," said the bodyguard.
"If something bad happens to Mr. Evans, all of you will have to pay for it," said Ethan.
At the foot of the mountain, when Cedric arrived, he saw rows of cars and even two ambulances.
It seemed to him as if something serious had just happened.
He suddenly remembered what Yosef had said.
'Could all of this relate to the Evans family? What is the relationship between the Evans family and Conner? Why is the Evans family mustering large forces to look for Conner?' he wondered.
Cedric got out of the car and was ready to go up the mountain.
However, not long after he started walking up, a large group of people came down the mountain.
"Quick. Make way," said one of the paramedics.
Among them, Conner was being carried on a stretcher, with 911 paramedics by his side.
"Conner!" Cedric hurriedly ran after Conner's stretcher.
"Doctor, I'm his friend. How is he doing?" asked Cedric.
The doctor glanced at him and said hastily, "His vital signs are stable, and no other conditions have been found for the time being. Get in the ambulance first. We'll draw blood and give him a physical examination."
As they spoke, they had already arrived at the ambulance.
The nurse stopped Cedric. "We need to give him first aid. Al family members will
have to step back. You can follow behind the ambulance to the hospital."noveldrama
"Okay. I got it." Cedric nodded.
Most importantly, Conner had been found.
As he turned back to get to the car, he saw another stretcher.
The person on the stretcher was lying down, so he couldn't tell who it was at first. However, the doctors and nurses around him looked more tense than the two who were with Conner.
While running with the stretcher, a nurse was holding a breathing bag to help the casualty breathe.
Besides, the stretcher was followed by a group of people.
Ethan was running after the stretcher, almost in tears.
"Mr. Evans, Mr. Evans, please be safe!" Ethan said.
'Mr. Andy Evans asked me to follow Mr. Edgar Evans out for work, so I have to be responsible for Mr. Edgar Evans' safety. If anything happened to MrEdgar Evans, how can I get Mr. Andy Evans a replacement son?' Ethan was anxious.
Andy had six sons and three daughters, but out of so many children, only one of them turned out to be capable.
It was not easy to get Josiah to agree to return to the Evans family. Ethan, with red eyes, threatened the doctors and nurses, "If anything happens to Mr. Evans, I'll tear down this hospital."
"We got it," said the medical staff Cedric, who was standing aside, frowned. He was full of doubts.
'Edgar Evans? Is there someone with the name Edgar from the Evans family?' He thought it was because he had been abroad for too long, and that was why he had never heard of or seen Edgar in the Evans family.
He approached the ambulance.
As all the personnel backed away when the stretcher was lifted onto the vehicle, Cedric saw the profile of the casualty who was lying on the stretcher.
"Josiah," he exclaimed.
Cedric's heart skipped a beat as he saw it was Josiah.
He took a step forward to see what was going on, but the door of the ambulan
cewas closed.
At the same time, the ambulance that Conner was in had already set off.
There was no time left. Cedric quickly turned back, opened the car door, got in, and followed the ambulance.
In the emergency room of the hospital, Sienna rushed over from the inpatient building after receiving a call from Cedric. "Cedric!"
From a distance, she saw Cedric waiting for her at the gate.
Sienna ran even faster.
"Slow down." Cedric reached out to help her up while going up the stairs as he
was worried that she would fall down.
"I'm fine." Sienna panted, shook her head, stood firmly, and stretched her neck to
look inside.
"You said Conner had been found. Is that true? Where is he?"
asked Sienna.
"Yes." Cedric nodded and pointed inside. "When they found him, he was
unconscious and is being rescued inside now."
"Being rescued..." serious?"
Sienna's heart skipped a beat. "Is he injured? Is it.
"We can't be sure yet." Cedric shook his head and said truthfully.
"But don't worry too much. The 911 paramedics said his vital signs are stable, and there were no obvious external injuries... However, he needs a thorough check-up. We'll
know more when he wakes up," said
Cedric.
"Oh..." Sienna clutched her chest, feeling a slight relief, but her heart still pounded
with worry.
She looked up at Cedric. Her eyes were red as she said, "Cedric...
Thank you. Thank you so much."
She knew that those words couldn't express her gratitude enough.
"It's nothing..." Cedric shook his head with mixed feelings.
Just then, the door of the emergency room next to them opened, and a nurseru
she d out.
"Are any of you the family of the patient who was just brought in?"
asked the nurse.
She paused and continued, "The patient is in critical condition. The chief surgeon
just issued a critical condition notice. We need a family member to sign it."
What do you think?
